In His Presence

"You have made known to me the paths of life; you fill me with joy in your presence." Acts 2:28 I have decided to start a blog because I have been finding so many other blogs so inspiring over the last few days. Hopefully, this one will be inspiring to you!

Another Week

Well... Friday Night has once again come! Nice hey? I have had a very relaxing night thus far... read a bit, watched television a bit, played piano a bit, and in a bit I will go and read some more. I honestly can't wait to go read some more. If you would have asked my mom when I was child if I would love reading as an adult I am sure my mom would definitely have answered no! I hated reading when I was child. But since the summer of 2003 I love reading! And I mean I love it! I find it so relaxing and so enjoyable. I especially enjoy reading Christian Living books. I just find it so inspirational!

So this week has gone really quickly before I know I will be singing and playing Christmas music in my classroom. I plan on starting Christmas music in two weeks to prepare for the Christmas concert coming up a month later. Some students are already talking about what Christmas music they want to play. Can't wait for it! And I can't wait for the snow either! It looked like it was going to snow here today but it never. I was a little disappointed. Both Carla and I just want to get our machines out and go skidooing. Anyway, that will be exciting!

Anyway, I don't have much to say tonight... I'll try to be more reflective next time. Just thought I'd drop a line since I haven't blogged in over a week.

Blessings,
Rebecca

Choir Started Tonight

Tonight I started a choir at the church here. I had 11 people show up for the first rehearal. I prayed a lot about it this week, especially last night and throughout the day. I just pray that God will equip me with the tools I need to work with this choir and be in a music ministry.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to do this. I have lots of different songs picked out. Last night we practiced these songs: Amazing Grace, Be Thou My Vision, Soon and Very Soon, Majesty, Here I am to Worship (listened to on IPOD), and I know there is one more but just can;t think about it right now.

Well I am going to have other music picked out for this coming Wednesday and I hope it goes over just as well.

Blessings,
Rebecca

Nunatsiavut: Our Beautiful Land

Carla, Russell, and I walked to the hill that overlooks Makkovik one day in September. Here is a picture of Carla and I on the rock on top of the hill. We were testing out my camera at this point!

Just a picture of the community where I live and teach.
In winter all of this is completely white.

Well, Labrador has many spectacular sights. You definitely know you live in God's creation when you are in Labrador. Everything is beautiful. You feel like you are in nature all the time. When I first arrived here last year, I felt like I was in camp again. You land at the airport, someone picks you up, brings you where you will be staying, and then you walk back and forth to your work. Sometimes it still reminds me like I am at summer camp. That always gives it an even nicer feeling than what it already is.

These pictures are taken from the hill that overlooks the community. It is a nice little hike and the walking is very worthwhile for the breathtaking view.

Prayer is KEY

Last night I finished reading the book, "Experiencing Prayer with Jesus" by Henry and Norman Blackbury. It is a really great book that shows us how to have a prayer life like Jesus. That is our ultimate goal, isn't it?

Too often, many people just pray when they are going through a rough time or need help with something. But prayer should be a huge part of everyday life. It should be the first thing we do in the morning when we awake. We should converse with God throughout the day in all circumstances. And it should be the last thing we do before we go to sleep at night.

Like Jesus, we should all go to a quiet place and speak to our Father before we make any decision. Like Jesus, we should always pray for God's will to be done. Like Jesus, we should communicate with our Father throughout the day. We are his children and I mean "children". A young child when they are growing up communicates with their parents all day... that is how they learn. To God we are his "children", through communicating with Him we can learn some amazing insights from him.

I think it is amazing how God has given us the gift of prayer, the ability to communicate personally to Him. What an awesome God! It is through prayer that we truly comprehend our Christian walk, that we truly understand God's will for our life. But most importantly through prayer we praise him. He certainly deserves all the praise that we can give!

Yes, prayer is indeed amazing.

Many blessings,
Rebecca

What does being a Christian mean to you?

Over the past couple of days I have been thinking about this question a lot: "What does being a Christian mean to you?" Presently at school I am teaching a course called Christian Writings hence, I have had many different responses about what a Christian is. I haven't really gave them an answer since I am trying to be as objective as possible. Personally I do know what being a Christian means and I do believe that is what a Christian is!
Although, I am pretty positive that many other peoples response would differ from mine.

So here's my personal response to that question:

Being a Christian is definitely a life style. A Christian believes in God and salvation. They believe that God is Lord and that He sent his son to die on the cross for forgiveness of sins.
As a Christian you have accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour and you have received salvation from Him. At this moment you enter into an incredible relationship with Him. You believe and trust that God is above all and you long and desire to spend time in His presence.

As a Christian... each day tries to become more and more like Him. A Christian cares about others, tries to set a Christlike example, prays on a regular basis, does personal Bible study, spends alone time with God everyday, doesn't participate in worldly things, and tries their best to live like Him. They try to live by Christ's example and tries not to be influenced by other things.

Now I am not perfect by no means and there are definitely things in my Christian walk that I am not proud about. There are times where I get stuck in the mud and can't seem to get out but every morning I pray that God will help me be an example for Him. I want people to see Jesus in me because I want them to see the true joy of knowing Jesus on a personal basis. There is truly nothing better than being a follower of Jesus. That's very true.

I am glad that I put all of my trust in Him.

Have a great day with many blessings!

Power Up! Jesus Helps Us

Sunday School started today. I am heading it up this year and I want to make it as exciting as possible. I want the children to experience how exciting it can be to have God in your life. Today was the first day and 11 children showed up which was pretty good.

I have decided to use two VBS programs. We are starting with "Power Up" VBS and then Treasure of the Nile. After this the Sunday school will be purchasing the new Veggie Tales Curriculum. All of this programs have a lot of excellent resourses, activities, and fantastic exciting music. Today we did Power Up... " Love One Another". I think the kids had a really good time. We started by serving them juice, then we sang the theme song, then we sang some other Sunday School songs, did a skit, read the Good Samaritian story, learned the memory verse with a puzzle, played pass the parcel, made a "Power Up" banner, ended with a cupcake, and finally prayer. I really believe the kids had an excellent time. We are going to try to get more kids next week. I plan on putting letters in the kids bookbags this week at school. I am so excited about Sunday School and I guess if I am exciting about it the kids will be too! For example when I am excited about Junior Choir the kids are excited about Junior Choir. I really believe God has a great plan that is about to happen on the North Coast. I hope I am here to watch it unfold. Please pray for the Sunday School program here.

I also have a highschool student who asked to help out. She was confirmed last year at the church here so I was very pleased when she asked me in school if she could help with Sunday School. Also, my new roommate, a Moravian missionary is helping me as well until he leaves in January... then Carla will help me again. Keep praying. I truly believe that God is going to help us build this program.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well.

In faith,
Rebecca
